What is Short-Term Disability Insurance? 

A type of coverage that replaces a portion of your income if injury or illness prevents you from working. It provides financial security for you and any loved ones who may depend on your ability to earn a paycheck. You may also hear disability insurance referred to as disability income insurance or income protection.

 

Plan Rules:

  • Eligibility: All full-time employees working 20+hours/week
    • Coverage through Mutual of Omaha
    • Must be actively at work on the effective date
    No Health Questions - EVERY YEAR! (Pre-existing condition will apply for new participants)
    • Employees can choose to start/stop their sick leave
    • Pays in addition to sick leave and does not offset with sick leave (Above 100% of pre-disability earnings)
    • Employee does not have to exhaust sick leave prior to receiving a benefit

You may also hear disability insurance referred to as disability income insurance or income protection.

 

Plan Rules:

  • Eligibility: All full-time employees working 20+hours/week
    • Coverage provided by Mutual of Omaha
    • Must be actively at work on the effective date
    • If electing outside of the initial open enrollment period, health questions will be required
    • Employees can choose to start/stop their sick leave. Decision must be made at beginning of leave.
